Set in truly wild and remote Essex coastal countryside, we explore the fantastic and ancient Northey Island off the Blackwater Estuary, and Maldon on foot! Walking along the amazing tidal causeway.

This history tour, will focus on the ancient Battle of Maldon, and we visit Northey Island, where a thousand years ago, the Vikings arrived before us, and used it as a base, before the Great Battle of Maldon.
This fantastic history walking tour, will emphasise the Anglo Saxon perspective, yet also introduce us to the equally intriguing Viking World!
We visit a haunting and truly atmospheric area, thought to be the possible site of the actual Battlefield of Maldon in 991!
This is truly an adventure! A walk set in wild and remote countryside. There are few areas like this left in Essex today! This is ancient Essex History at its very best!
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TOUR
Enjoy delicious coffee and cake, at a super coffee house in Maldon full of character, before the tour begins.
Visit what is thought to be the possible ancient Battlefield site, of the Great Battle of Maldon in 991.
Walk along the fantastic coastal causeway to Northey Island, with amazing panoramic views.
Walk on wild and remote Northey Island, used as a base by the Vikings a thousand years ago! Before they attempted to raid and plunder Maldon!
Walk along part of the lovely Seasalt Marsh, frequented only by butterflies and wild flowers. All you can hear is the sound of the wind and the birds!
See the famous and moving statue of Brythnoth!
THE WALK
This is a half day walking tour.
Moderate walking over uneven, and sometimes wet surfaces.
Not suitable for the very elderly, or those with walking difficulties.
6 miles walking. This is a moderate walk of a fair distance.

I will be checking very carefully on behalf of all my guests, the tidal times for crossing to Northey Island.
We will cross very safely at low tide.
