Walking is moderate of 6 miles duration!
The tour starts in Maldon, and we journey on foot to the causeway, and cross safely over at low tide to enjoy a fantastic circular walk of Northey Island!
Set in truly wild and remote countryside, this super historical tour touching upon very exciting ancient Essex history based on The Battle of Maldon in 991AD! I offer thoughts on both the Anglo Saxon perspective and the Vikings world!
HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS TOUR
Visit Northey Island on foot, this is very special! A unique experience, and one of the best walks I have personally taken in all of Essex! Set in truly wild and remote countryside’ in’ The Blackwater Estuary!
Visit an area that is amazingly atmospheric, and seeped in great historical interest, some think this area maybe the actual site of the Battle of Maldon!
To cross the causeway, covered in parts by seaweed and small crabs at low tide in The Blackwater Estuary! Whilst enjoying beautiful and fantastic panoramic views over Northey Island and The Blackwater Estuary.
Enjoy a super peaceful yet very exciting circular walk on Northey Island, that some historians think was used as a base before their attempted raid on Maldon in 991AD, over a thousand years ago!
Enjoy this 6 mile walk, in a truly deeply peaceful place, it restores the soul to walk in such a setting! All you will hear is the sound of the wind, and see the fluttering of gentle butterflies, as we walk along part of the SaltSea Coastal Route Path.
This is a fabulous walking historical tour, and offers guests a unique and very special experience!
The Tide Times
I check the tide times very carefully, prior to any tour going ahead, and so the safety of my guests is always very important!
The tour is dependent upon low tide times! So I will give you the tour timings a week in advance of the tour! The Tour aims to cross the causeway in the morning!
Walk along the fantastic coastal causeway to Northey Island, with amazing panoramic views.
Walk on wild and remote Northey Island, used as a base by the Vikings a thousand years ago! Before they attempted to raid and plunder Maldon!
Walk along part of the lovely Seasalt Marsh, frequented only by butterflies and wild flowers. All you can hear is the sound of the wind and the birds!
See the famous and moving statue of Brythnoth!

This is a half day walking tour.
You must be walking fit to enjoy this tour.
This is a walking tour of moderate walking level, of 6 miles.
People with walking difficulties or health issues, the elderly, those using walking sticks, zimmer frames or wheelchairs. This tour is not suitable for them sorry
Moderate walking over uneven, and sometimes wet surfaces. Please wear flat, sturdy walking shoes or boots that may get wet!
Not suitable for the very elderly, or those with walking difficulties.
