This interesting tour focuses on the countryside surrounding Manningtree, as we walk by the edge of The mercurial Stour Estuary, through fields and the woods, surrounding Manningtree, where The Witch Hunts occurred. We visit the famous 800 year old Knobbeley Tree, and see a pond where Matthew Hopkins may have swum witches!
This is a very atmospheric walk, and we can imagine how much more feral and wild the surrounding land must have been in the 17th century, during The Essex Witch Hunts!
We also discover those few individuals, who were brave enough to oppose the Witch Hunts, in their day, and hear of the myths and legends that arose!
